85. Acropolis

The Akropolis was built on the highest point in Athens, during the 5th century B.C., and commissioned by Perikles. It was a holy site and dedicated to the twelve Greek Gods. The most striking building is the Parthenon, which was dedicated to the Goddess Athena, and has Doric columns. The Erechtheion (with Karyatid hall), as well as the Temple of Athena Nike, was built in the Ionic architectural style. Our model is shown in its unpainted state from about 400 B.C.
