90. Zeus Statue

The local architect Libon, commissioned the 24 metre high temple in Olympia in about 460 B.C. The 13 metre Zeus statue was completed by the sculptor Phidas in 433 B.C. He used such materials as ivory, ebony and cypress wood. The soles of the sandals, the robe and the hair were made of gold. Our model of the temple has been "cut open" to enable you to see the statue.
