55. Borobudur Temple

Under the rule of the Shailendra dynasty, thousands of people contributed to the building of the Borobodur Temple between the years 780 and 850. It covers an area of 123m by 117m, and was constructed out of over 56,000 cubic metres of hewn lava stone. It reaches a height of 34 meters and contains 5 galleries and 3 terraces.
From 1975 to 1983 the temple was restored and is now a UNESCO site as well as one of the Asian wonders of the world.

Construction time: 18 months - 5 model builders
1300 relief pictures as well as 108 Buddha figures (per side) can be seen.
