57. Castel del Monte

Located near Andria in Italy, Kaiser Friedrich the Second's hunting residence is one of the most imposing castles of its era. This mathematically calculated construction began in 1240. The castle is octagonal with octagonal corner towers, and has Muslim influences.
The "Castrum Sanctae Mariae del Monte" belongs to the state and is a UNESCO world heritage site.
