84. El Castillo pyramid

El Castillo is the most impressive monument in Chichen Itza, the city of the Toltecs and Mayas in Mexico. The temple pyramid was built by the Toltecs towards the end of the 12th century. Huge steps run up each of the four sides to the temple, which was built for the God Cuculcan. At the foot of one of the steps are the heads of 2 snakes that represent the God Quetzalcoatl. The four sides of the model, each with 91 steps, plus one terrace step, add up to 365 - representing the days of the year.
