47. Tower of Belem

In the Tejo estuary, near the Portuguese capital of Lisbon is the most famous tower in Europe - the "Torre de Belem." It stands as a memorial to the courageous sailors who sailed from Portugal to India and the New World in the 14th and 15th centuries.
The Tower of Belem has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.
