80. Washington Monument

The Washington Monument was designed by Robert Mills and built from 1848-1884 (including several interruptions) in remembrance of George Washington, the first president of the USA. The obelisk is hollow and 169 metres high. The outer walls are covered with white Maryland marble, and the top is made of aluminium.
