81. Washington Capitol building

W. Thornton designed the parliament building which is located in Washington D.C., the capital of the USA. Construction began in 1793, and the Congress first used the building in 1800, although it was not finished. The dome and the two wings were built shortly after 1850. The Capitol is located on Capitol Hill and opened daily to the public. Every year, between 3 and 5 million people from all over the world visit the Capitol building.
